Hi all, Just wanted to drop you a note to thank you all for your tremendous
support during the months of November to February. With very little going in
the way of application call backs, the group kept me motivated with improving
my resume and cover letters, practicing my 30/60s, a mock interview critique
(thanks Kier, Bill and Gary!) and general networking and good humor. I
enjoyed the Monday meetings for getting me out of the house, and doing
Marketing/Networking at the job fairs. I also learned so much from the
Admin and State Jobs meetup groups. My participation at SacProNet was
invaluable to me during those months when my job search appeared to be going
nowhere, and I can say truthfully that the members definitely assisted me in
landing my new position at Blue Diamond. So I give my best heartfelt thanks
to all of you and wish you the best of luck in your next opportunities, which
will be right around the corner. Please keep in touch on LinkedIn.

"Thanks for the continued words of encouragement. During the down moments of the last 6 months, it was people like you of the SPN group that made it easier to continue with the job search with a positive attitude.. I look at how many good, well trained people we have in our group..." - Dennis Joiner
I truly want to thank you guys for all your support and insight. I strongly feel that I would not have gotten this job without your help. So, once again thanks for all your help and support."

To all of my friends at SacPROnet,
I have enjoyed the past seven months or so as a member of SacPROnet. I am now to be counted among former members.
Through the help and support I received and the skills I learned as a committee chairman, I was able to land a position with a local manufacturer. Without the experience I gained as the Resume Committee Chair; without the interview skills I was able to practice with the Interview Committee; without the constant push improve my 30/60 ME; and without the personal support and job hunting assistance I received from other members I might still be unemployed.
There are as many opinions as there are members of SacPROnet and that is one of the things that enriches the experience. Don Moore is unflappable in his position as President. Marc Blaine is so opinionated his pot is easy to stir, but his get-it-done focus helps guide us all. Maureen is so focused on helping us realize our employment goals that she puts us all to shame. Mike Flanagan, Mr. Cool, brings a personal presence that seems to calm and guide any situation. Kay Rathfelder is capable at cutting through the quagmire of information and apply a clear focus wherever it is needed. Ron McClure, as the web project manager, has done an amazing amount of work in getting the new site ready to go and I do not think anyone else could keep Charles on track, kudos Ron! Rick Lovvo has taken the Admin Chair position on and has provided us all with both an invaluable source of information and as a contributing member has provided a constant reminder to stay on task while limiting his own job search to help out his SPN colleagues.
I, of course, kept my opinions to myself. But I am going to miss the weekly meetings with the Executive Committee, Resume Committee, State Jobs meet-up group, and especially my Friday morning coffee with the Education Committee, which has become a sort of mini-focus SacPROnet executive council session.
As a suggestion (not opinion) I think a non-structured executive meeting consisting of the Pres., VP’s, and Committee Chairs is a good idea. Meeting at 7:15 am on Fridays and having an informal discussion covering a wide range of topics without time pressure or having to make decisions would be a good way to develop agenda items and establish priorities in an informal setting.
Now, a couple of thoughts about my new position, and how I achieved that goal. First as Jeff Dunn from Intel just said the economy is so bad that 6 month gaps in employment are not unusual. So my nearly seven month tenure with SacPROnet is not all that unusual, and the use of Volunteer activities to fill in that gap is a perfect way to say I did take part in the world and helped someone else along the way.
Each of us has a job hunting strategy we follow most are better than mine and SPN really helped focus my search. The three things that helped the most are the three core skills SPN tries to teach.
First a targeted resume, as I assumed the Resume Chair I realized how woefully ineffective my resume was. Through the help of other committee members and through the skills I developed reviewing members resumes I was able to sharpen my resume and cover letter techniques. Once again for those who have not heard it Numbers, Dollars, Percents – quantify your resume. Let the resume committee do its job and help you prepare the “Paper ME” you send to employeers!
Second the interview skills which help prepare you for those “behavioral” questions. The interview committee is an invaluable resource that should have members knocking down its door. It also provides you the detailed feedback that includes voice, volume, nervous habits, and when to stop talking - when enough is enough.
Third thank you and follow up. If not for thanks and follow up I might still be looking. Following my first interview, in fact the same day, I wrote and mailed separate thank you and follow up letters to the operations manager and general manager with whom I interviewed. The thank you letter was mentioned during my subsequent and final interview with the statement that it was obvious that “I got it” that I understood business.
All of that said I wish you all good luck and I will genuinely miss the camaraderie of SPN.
